Landscape provides the starting point for my paintings, but not their destination. Every work begins with observation before gradually becoming an exploration of atmosphere, light and memory.

Working primarily in oil, I build each painting through successive layers, allowing colour, texture and surface to evolve over time. The process is guided as much by intuition as by observation, seeking to capture the emotional experience of landscape rather than its physical description.

My practice explores the shifting relationship between land, sea and sky. The resulting paintings invite viewers to inhabit places that feel remembered rather than simply seen.

Biography

Jason Cordingley is a British landscape painter based in Lisbon, Portugal.

For more than three decades, he has regularly exhibited and sold paintings through galleries while combining his studio practice with a career in art education. He is currently Head of Art at The British School of Lisbon, where teaching and dialogue with young artists continue to inform and enrich his own practice.

Inspired by the Atlantic coastline, the changing light of Portugal and the landscapes of Britain, his paintings explore atmosphere, memory and the emotional resonance of place. Working in layered oil paint, he moves beyond direct observation to create landscapes shaped as much by experience and recollection as by the physical world.
